Our debut CD is out now!

YSC001CoverWe are delighted to announce the release of our first CD, Sax for Twelve.  As the name suggests, the recording focuses on music in 12 parts.  As the UK’s only independent 12 piece saxophone choir with one player to a part, we wanted to concentrate on compositions and arrangements for our full 12 part line-up.  The CD features the instrumental range from sopranino to bass, with two sopranos and baritones and three altos and tenors completing the ensemble.

The recording includes a wide range of music from Baroque and early music through to jazz arrangements and contemporary compositions, and showcases a number of pieces that have a special connection with our group.  Melanie Thorne’s In the Wake of the Wickerman was written for Yorkshire Saxophone Choir and is dedicated to us, Jon Halton produced a new version of Brooks Bowman’s East of the Sun for us, and Dream and Reality by Don Ashton was arranged specially for this recording.

The CD provides an opportunity to hear some exciting new repertoire for saxophone choir.  Several of the tracks have never been recorded before, including Bossax Novax by Didier Ropers and the title track, Roberto di Marino’s Sax for Twelve, as well as the three works written or arranged for the group.  Other original compositions, such as Andy Scott’s Big Red and Witch Hunt by Ulrich Schultheiss, appear here in an alternative instrumentation to any existing recordings, giving them a different flavour.

We are grateful to the composers and arrangers whose work features on our debut recording, with a special mention for Melanie Thorne, Jon Halton and Don Ashton, who have been very generous with their music and support over the years.  We would also like to thank Keiron Anderson, Patrick Abbott and Sarah Markham for their invaluable input into the recording process, and to Patrick for his excellent work in producing the CD.

You can get a copy by getting in touch with any members of the group, or by coming along to our concerts.

If you can't wait to get hold of a copy you can now click on the CD tab at the top of the webpage to buy one online.
