Welcome to the NEW Yorkshire Saxophone Choir website.
The Yorkshire Saxophone Choir is, to the best of our knowledge, the only group of it's kind in the UK. It is a chamber group consisting of 12 saxophones, ranging from the very rare Soprillo to the huge Bass Saxophone.
Here at www.yorkshiresaxchoir.co.uk you can find lots of information about the group, ranging from profiles of the performers to gig listings and sample recordings.
The Yorkshire Saxophone Choir is a registered charity. Charity number 1121015
Yorkshire Saxophone Choir will be appearing in a BBC TV production of the Symphony for Yorkshire, commissioned by the BBC from composer / director Benjamin Till, who fell in love with the county while a music student at the University of York. Ensembles and solo musicians from across the region auditioned for the chance to take part in the symphonic extravaganza, to be broadcast on BBC Look North, Big Screens and on the four BBC local radio stations across the county on Yorkshire Day, Sunday 1 August 2010.
We are delighted to announce the release of our first CD, Sax for Twelve. As the name suggests, the recording focuses on music in 12 parts. As the UK’s only independent 12 piece saxophone choir with one player to a part, we wanted to concentrate on compositions and arrangements for our full 12 part line-up.
The CD features the instrumental range from sopranino to bass, with two sopranos and baritones and three altos and tenors completing the ensemble.
